Courtesy holds and ticket time limits

Effective March 31, 2021

Alaska Airlines ticket time limit requirement varies based upon the class of service held and the remaining days until departure of the held flight. Verify all rules and restrictions when placing a record on a courtesy hold and before ticketing to ensure all requirements will be met. The courtesy hold does not override any fare rules, including advance purchase. Additionally, if the ticket is not issued within the required time-frame the reservation will be canceled and a new fare may apply.

J and Y classes of service
  • Held 21 or more days to departure: Ticket time limit of 11:59pm (PT) 3 days after booking.
  • Held 3 to 20 days to departure: Ticket time limit of 11:59pm (PT) 1 day after booking.
  • Held 2 or fewer days to departure: Ticket time limit of 6 hours after booking.
  • Classes other than Y or J
  • Held 3 or more days to departure: Ticket time limit of 11:59pm (PT) 1 day after booking.
  • Held 2 or fewer days to departure: Ticket time limit of 6 hours after booking.

If for any reason the held fare is no longer valid, do not force the fare or process a pricing record. This will result in a debit memo. Once a record is canceled for missing the ticket time limit, a new record should be booked to avoid a debit memo for churning.

Discontinued fares

If you attempt to ticket a held reservation and find that the fare has been discontinued in the meantime, please call the inside sales desk for assistance. Do not force a fare without a waiver code or you will receive a debit memo.

Churning

Alaska Airlines will debit travel agencies who repeatedly create and cancel a reservation using the same or different fare class on their GDS or other systems in order to circumvent our established ticket time limits, hold confirmed space, or to achieve their contract commitments. Please refer to your ARC Industry Agent's handbook for the industry standards for churning.
